My unhappy Essure Procedure

I am writing this post to express what has happened to me, just because it happened to me doesn't mean it will happen to you, but I did not read this anywhere so I wanted to do the best I could to tell everyone who is interested in the procedure.

I knew I only wanted to have 2 kids, so my regret has nothing to do with that, just how the tubes took. I went in for the procedure ~ everything went fine. Within a day I was totally back to normal and started telling everyone how wonderful it was and I couldn't wait for the 3 month check to make sure I was indeed sterile.

Two days before I went to the 3 month checkup one of the coils fell out... I was shocked. From what I understand this can happen, but if the coils fall out it normally happens soon after the procedure, not 3 months later! I called my doctor and they basically said they hadn't heard of that happening and they would see my Monday (it happened on Saturday).

Monday I went in and they did the test and decided they couldn't tell if I was actually sterile, which can happen with some people and then normally by 6 months they are sterile. Well my doctor seemed annoyed that I wanted to come back in 3 more months and do the test again and told me I should just have a tubal done. I didn't want to have surgery and at the time my youngest was under 6 months and my oldest was barely 2 so I didn't feel I had the time for recovery. My doctor then told me (and this is the reason I'm so upset and created this blog!!) ~
"Well don't worry, because the other coil is hanging down part ways, so if you were to get pregnant we would just terminate the pregnancy since the coil would rip open the bag at the wrong time."

I WENT INTO SHOCK!!!! This is not a position I wanted to be put in.... abortion is not the choice for me! No literature I read or website I looked at ever mentioned this as a possiblity. Needless to say my poor husband had to go get the V, after he thought he wasn't going to have to.

I just want everyone to know what is a possiblity before they are put in a situation they do not want to be found in.

Thank goodness I found your comments. I had my procedure done in August and am still waiting to have my final test ran. Well, guess what....one of my coils fell out today. I am having my menstrual cycle and my coil came out when I was wiping myself clean after urination. I was shocked at what I saw and now am very concerned that I will have to undergo surgery to have them removed. I would never recommend this procedure to anyone.

I had this procedure done too, but with no issues. The doctor I chose has been doing the Essure procedure for 5 years. She has not had any issues with it other than a couple patients who already had one tube naturally blocked. There have been no pregnancies in any of her patients and no harsh side effects. This was why I chose her. I am sorry that you both had issues with this procedure, but it has worked well for others. Everyone and their bodies are different. I am sorry yours rejected the coil.

I had my procedure 1 year ago everything has been great but I just don't know how to stop worrying that I am going to become pregnant and what if i do.... then what?? That's really the only complaint I have. I have a 4 year old and was told after her that I should not even think about having any other children, because of serious medical complications, so a year ago I started bleeding heavy for 3 months straight so this was the perfect thing for me because all of us women know what a period is like and having it for three months is like a nightmare! so I guess I killed two birds with one stone:) It was a blessing

I had a coil get displaced too. Mine didn't come all the way out though. They're so small I'm surprised you recognized it. Mine hurt like hell and bled like a gunshot wound though. I just thought it was a really bad period though because it was my first period off the pill in years. I got the procedure done again and even though that one didn't exactly go smoothly either, in the end I'm sterile. I still wouldn't recommend the procedure. It wasn't nearly as simple and low risk as they make it sound. The failure rate that they quote is only for the first 5 years too. They don't really know what the rate will be beyond that.

I had my essure procedure done april 2011. And this morning one of my coils fell out! Its been 2 yrs & it falls out, WTH???! I am on a very tight budget, can't afford insurance or even pay for low cost clinic. I don't know what to do. I am worried about the other coil. This is my body and its all I got. I might be able to get medicaid but I am not sure if it will cover what I may need to do. I am afraid what might be happening to my body while I just wait to figure something out.... Some help or suggestions are welcome.

I am so afraid, I have been having horrible cycles since I got the essure procedure last December. It's been six months and I still haven't had my confirm test yet, the doctors are working at their own pace. At three months after, I went in to the doctor complaining of severe cramps and major bleeding, well they just blew me off, so now it's been six months and I finally have an appt. for next week, BUT one of my coils comes out today while I'm on my cycle. I upset and worried at the same time, because if I knew this was possible I would have just went ahead and got a tubal. I want to sue these people for making false promises. This is very painful and I wouldn't wish this on anyone!

I had my procedure done in June. I have experience pain in both sides and bad cramping an bleeding for over three months. Recently I found out that my left coil is in my uterus. November 14 I supposed to have it removed but tonight I felt this feeling that was very weird so I decided to check and the coil was sure enough coming through so I pulled it out. I am still currently in pain an have not spoken to my doctor. I will do so I the morning. But this is definitely scary an i will never subject my body to any procedure like this again. I wish I would have done my research. And the follow up procedure hurts more then the procedure itself. Never again

I originally asked for the tubal procedure but the doctor turned me in the other direction to the essure no surgery she said. My husband and I were 100% positive we didnt want more children after our second and that's why I wanted a tubal but she talked me into the essure. I went in on January 27th for the procedure and it went well. The next day I was feeling labor pains and I looked at my husband and he was in shock I said that.anywho I returned to work two days after my procedure with bleeding and cramps they said that was normal. So here we are today the 31st of January and I was having aweful abdominal cramping in my rt side and back went potty and of coarse a coil came with it. Called my doc and she said now we can do the tubal and remove the other coil. If the Dr would be just listened to me when I first said I wanted the tubal this woulda never happened. I wouldn't recommend this procedure to anyone you instantly start bleeding and getting cramps. They say it's permanent birth control. Of you know you dont want kids just make your and your Dr's lives easier and get a tubal.

My procedure was done In December 2015 and I'm on my cycle and my coil fell out last night. Not sure what to do. I have been having these deep cramps and no it's not period cramps and i have lots of pressure when I urinate. Not sure what to do because my gyn is not open on the weekends. What did they say about yours falling out.

I also had this procedure done and like most commenting I too have had one of the coils come out, of course my dr says its fine and that i wouldn't get pregnant because my tube was very narrow that's the reason the coil came out so he's certain i can't get pregnant from that tube, well he was wrong I have had 2 babies since. I would not recommend this to anyone and now im looking for long term effects because i still have one coil in and i have found that some of the symptoms i have had since the procedure.

I had my procedure done in 2009 and I been searching the web to see wat they look like and from the looks of it I think it was a coil. While I was in the shower while on my menstrual I felt something strange as I was washing and it looks like what I seen a coil it fell out after 9 years. I dnt kno what to do by. I will definitely be calling my doctor
